Did you transition from office life to working from home? For many, this move made it easier to eat healthy lunches and snacks throughout the day as there was no longer the temptation to rely on a fast-food lunch break.
Now that a lot of us are back in an office setting, or following a hybrid work model, here are three tips to help maintain the healthy habits we built while at home. If you’re anything like me, and often find yourself in a rush each morning, it can be hard to avoid a quick stop for that delicious coffee or iced cap!
Take a Walking Break
Nothing is better than a breath of fresh air after you’ve been staring at your computer all morning. Instead of using your break as an excuse to scroll TikTok or catch up on your Instagram feed, grab your water bottle and put on some walking shoes! Explore the neighbourhood around your office. Take note of the cute tapas restaurant that could host your next happy hour with colleagues. You can even take a stroll through a local park—find a way to get those steps in!
Bring Snacks
If you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, you know all too well the temptation of that afternoon chocolate bar or slice of sugar-filled lemon loaf to pair with your Frappuccino. My best advice? Plan ahead! Bring some healthy snacks you can enjoy throughout the day. Fruits and veggies, nuts, or granola bars are all great options. Also make sure to have water throughout the day—dehydration can sometimes mask itself as hunger.
Do Meal Prep
This next tip can be tricky, as it can be time consuming and can occasionally cut into your busy weekend plans. It’s well worth it though! Try to fit meal prep into your weekend schedule to set yourself up for success for the following week. With a few meals at the ready, it’ll help cut costs. And you’ll thank yourself when you have a healthy dinner ready to go after a long day. Highly nutritious meals will help curb those cravings and avoid the mid-day slump.
Keeping up with healthy habits can be as easy as kicking off your work-from-home slippers and sliding on your office shoes. With a little effort, you’ll be able to maintain all the great habits you’ve built over the last few years. What are your best tips for staying healthy while working back in the office?
